Spring does not arrive dramatically in the Lake District but reveals itself in gentle stages. After the long, quiet winter months, the valley around Elterwater slowly begins to awaken. The fells soften from their muted winter tones into fresh greens, woodland floors brighten with early wildflowers and the trees begin to stir. To celebrate the season we are offering 15% off all bookings made before the end of April.

Imagine beginning the morning at Little Nut Cottage - on clear mornings soft light filters through the cottage windows as birds begin their dawn chorus in the surrounding trees. The scent of freshly brewed coffee drifts through the cosy living spaces, before you step outside for a long, unhurried walk around Elterwater village or along the nearby riverside paths that wind through the Great Langdale valley.

For those drawn to the outdoors, this season is one of the most beautiful times to explore the surrounds. Walks reveal waterfalls fed by winter rains, bright moss-covered stone walls and the first wildflowers appearing along the trails. From gentle lakeside strolls to more adventurous fell walks, the scenery feels fresh and full of life.
The season begins with the Lake District Duathlons in Grasmere on 29 March, where runners and cyclists take to the trails and scenic roads that wind through the Langdale Valley and it just as exciting to watch as it is to take part.

The neighbouring town of Ambleside also hosts its popular Ambleside Outdoor Market, where stalls fill the streets with local produce, baked goods, crafts and handmade gifts.
For culture lovers, the renowned Keswick Film Festival arrives in March bringing film screenings, talks and discussions to venues across the northern Lakes. It has become one of Cumbria’s most welcoming cultural events, drawing visitors and filmmakers alike for a long weekend of cinema in spectacular surroundings.

As the landscape continues its transformation, spring around Elterwater invites you to wander the woodland paths, discover nearby villages or simply enjoy the changing light across the valley. Come and experience a cottage shaped by the landscape that surrounds it. This spring, discover Little Nut Cottage and the timeless beauty of the Lake District.
