Summer in the Lake District - Weatherstone House

Spend a Summer at Little Nut Cottage

Tucked just beneath the Langdale Pikes, Elterwater really does move at its own gentle pace. With bracken-clad hills on one side and beautiful vast bodies of water on the other, Little Nut Cottage sits right in the middle - a beautifully restored 200-year-old quarryman's home made for slow mornings and long summer evenings. Here's how our guests love to spend their days.

Walking in Nature

Little Nut Cottage sits at the foot of the Langdale valleys beside Elterwater itself which is one of the quietest and prettiest lakes in the National Park. A guest favourite is the easy two-mile stroll along the lake shore, past Stockghyll Force waterfall, finishing at a much-loved vegetarian café by the river in Skelwith Bridge. For anyone wanting more of a challenge, Wrynose Pass is just five miles away and ranks among the toughest climbs in the country for cyclists.

Fine Dining

Cumbria may be England's least populated county, but it holds an outsized share of the country's culinary talent - fifteen Michelin stars across the region. Not far from the cottage, L'Enclume serves inventive, ingredient-led menus inside a 13th-century blacksmith's workshop in Cartmel, while The Old Stamp House champions Herdwick lamb and Windermere trout beneath 17th-century beams. For a quieter evening, The Forest Side draws much of its menu straight from its own kitchen garden.

Village Life and Local Culture

Evenings here are made for a short stroll to the Britannia, the Langdale Hotel or the Eltermere for a fireside drink. A little further afield is Blackwell, a historic Arts and Crafts house turned gallery near Windermere. As summer draws on, look out for the outdoor fairs and festivals that bring the local community together.
